Inside the Experience
Lunarena Cafe Condesa is a hidden gem tucked away in the vibrant heart of Mexico City’s Condesa neighborhood. This cozy café masterfully blends the rich, centuries-old traditions of Turkish coffee culture with the warm, inviting spirit of Mexico. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to a world where history and flavor intertwine—highlighted by authentic Turkish rugs, warm décor, and the subtle aroma of freshly brewed coffee prepared over sand. The experience is not just a drink; it’s a journey through the nuanced artistry of coffee making, complete with engaging stories and masterclasses shared by the knowledgeable owner, Victor.
The crown jewel of Lunarena is, without doubt, its Turkish coffee—brewed with precision and served with pride. Connoisseurs, including myself, will appreciate the deep, bold flavors that evoke the same authenticity found in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet district. Paired with delicate, buttery baklava, the coffee reaches new heights of indulgence, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and bitter that lingers pleasantly on the palate.
Beyond coffee, the café offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring dishes like shakshuka, which provides a hearty and flavorful start to your day. The service here also deserves special mention—Leela’s outstanding attention and charm make every visit memorable, adding a personal touch that feels like visiting a dear friend’s home.
Lunarena Cafe Condesa stands out not just as a place to drink coffee, but as a cultural hub that bridges continents. Its intimate atmosphere, exceptional coffee, and delicious Middle Eastern-inspired pastries make it a must-visit for anyone craving a genuine taste of Turkish heritage in the vibrant streets of CDMX.
“ I have been waiting to try Turkish coffee and hadn't made it to Turkey yet. When I saw this place we ran in. One of the best decisions in our month trip in Mexico. Combining the warm welcoming spirit of Mexico and Turkey made this feel like coming for me and my daughter. We received the most amazing attention and a college-level course in the history of coffee and the history of Turkish coffee. We ended up spending a couple hours there and didn't even realize it. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had the Turkish coffee, first with cardamom and cinnamon and then Turkish coffee plain. I think it's not just the coffee but it's the enjoyment of the coffee and the relaxation and the conversation that makes this experience such an amazing one. Once you take the time to understand what you are drinking, the coffee takes on a whole new meaning. We also had a small dish of Turkish delights which were wonderful. We came back another day to a warm welcome and greetings by name! We had large Turkish coffee and baklava with pistachios. We didn't want to leave. Just to note, this Turkish coffee was so smooth we drank it plain just to enjoy and appreciate it Now make sure you go upstairs because the decorations are great on the side of the large seating area and it feels like you're in a Turkish living room with kilims and jajims sitting relaxed on pillows. It really puts you in another frame of mind. I wouldn't miss this experience if you find yourself in Mexico City. ”
“ The best place for a Turkish coffee, ask for Quique and Adrian, they will give the best service and excellent coffee with delicious baklavas ”
“ Amazing atmosphere, and the coffee just like I had in Turkey. Highly recommend this place for a nice coffee and desert. ”
“ While strolling through Condesa, I spotted the inviting sign for Lunarena Café and just had to step inside — and I’m so glad I did! This cozy spot brings a beautifully authentic slice of Turkish coffee culture to the heart of CDMX. From the moment you walk in, the vibe feels like you’ve been transported straight to Sultanahmet — thanks to rich Turkish rugs, warm decor, and even shishas on display, creating a truly immersive atmosphere. What sets Lunarena apart is the way you customize your coffee. You’re asked how you like it — whether with cinnamon, cardamom, or sugar — and I opted for the classic cardamom with a touch of sugar. The result? A perfectly brewed cup of coffee with deep, aromatic flavor and a rich, smooth finish. It’s obvious they take pride in their craft. The service was friendly and personal, adding to the overall warmth of the experience — whether you’re grabbing a coffee to go or settling in for a slow, relaxing sip. Many visitors also note the welcoming staff and the unique ritual of brewing coffee in hot sand right in front of you, which makes the visit feel special. All in all, Lunarena Café is a must-visit if you find yourself wandering around Condesa — especially for coffee lovers and those curious about Turkish traditions. Highly recommended! “ Leela makes the best mocha in CDMX. Don't let her prickly demeanor, or freakishly good looks scare you that way I let it scare me. She is a P R O. This place is a must visit for a stongggggg coffee, and a delicious baklava, and great service. Everytime I visit has been a 5 ⭐ visit. ”
